4 DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS OF
PERSONAL TRAINERS
Having a personal trainer or registering for a
fitness boot camp can be awesome tools to improve your life. But be forewarned –
personal training is an unregulated industry.
Because of this, there are a few things you should
know so you don’t get burned.
And while my colleagues will probably hate me for
telling you this stuff I’m going to let you in on 4 “dirty little secrets” that
make my industry look bad.
1) Anyone can call
themselves a “personal trainer”
You don’t have to go to college, graduate from high
school, or even pass a test. Just hang a sign on your door and you’re ready to
go!
And because of this it’s VERY important you do your
homework before you invest your hard earned cash.
2) Even the best trainer can’t help you lose weight if you don’t make lifestyle changes
The common saying among “Fitness
Insiders” is that diet is 80% of results. Some even say 90%.
While the exact number isn’t
important the concept is critical. So if you’re not ready to change then save
your money. Spend it when you get to that place where you’ll do ANYTHING to
loss weight.
3) Big box gyms hire trainers based on sales skills – NOT training
skills
The SOP in big box gyms is to hire
20 trainers and let them all loose on the gym floor. If they can pick up
clients off the gym floor, they keep their job.
4) Most trainers are
scared to death of a “Money Back Guarantee”
The sad truth is that most trainers don’t get any real
results with their clients. And they refuse to offer a “Money Back Guarantee” because
they know they’ll have to pay up.
In fact, on one guys website I saw this tag line: “Results
Guaranteed or Your Old Body Back!”
I’m not trying to pick on anybody or single anyone out, but
that one really pissed me off.
Imagine a car salesman selling you a car and telling you “Don’t
worry – if it doesn’t run you can just drive your old car.”
I expect much more from myself, my employees, and my clients.
